Russian Forces Mass Around Berwick

The Russian forces were stung at Coldstream Bridge (for the battle report see the earlier blog post here) but are now massing ready to lay siege to Berwick Upon Tweed which is the only British fortress preventing them breaking through into Northern England.

The Tsar’s forces, keen to move past Berwick quickly, have been in discussions with the French High Command to launch a diversionary assault. Preparations are being made for a double-pronged thrust into Lincolnshire using the Imperial Navy to support swift naval landings. This mini-campaign will be the subject of a game held in October hosted by my very talented friend Tim Hall  and a number of other chums from the Loose Association of Wargamers. Come back later in the year to find out what happens – Russians, French, Prussians, Germanic states and of course British – its going to be quite a game. We will use Howard Whitehouse’s forthcoming toy soldier rules “A Gentleman’s War”.

Tsarist reinforcements that have deployed recently include a cavalry brigade and Imperial naval infantry. The British have been struggling to make available reserves in time but the Scots Greys have now arrived South of the River Tweed to support the beleaguered garrison.

It’s a lovely looking collection, Simon, and rapidly growing into something very special.
I’m very much looking forward to taking part in Tim’s game in October – it’ll be quite an experience.
